The very first race of the 2017 Energy for Swim is one you certainly do not want to miss on Tuesday, August 8, in Rome.
Italy's Federica Pellegrini -- the world-record holder and 2017 world champion in the 200m freestyle -- has medaled in the aforementioned race at every World Championships since 2005. That is seven consecutive -- truly impressive.
Sweden's Sarah Sjöström -- the 2016 Olympic silver medalist in the 200m freestyle -- has been on fire in 2017 in the 50m freestyle and 100m freestyle, setting world records in both at the 2017 FINA World Championships in Budapest, Hungary. With her heavy racing schedule, Sjöström decided to drop the 200 from her lineup in Budapest -- an event she certainly could have contended in -- leaving swimming fans wondering what if?
The wait is over, folks.
Pellegrini and Sjöström will be going head-to-head in the first heat of the first event in Rome on Tuesday -- giving swimming fans the race they wanted. Heck, if only Katie Ledecky would make a surprise deck enter in this meet (don't get your hopes up) this would be a World Championship-caliber race.
The best part about it? You can watch it all LIVE on FloSwimming. The action kicks off Tuesday, August 8, at 2 PM Central Time.
Pellegrini versus Sjöström isn't the only exciting matchup in Rome, though. Check out the full heat sheet for the two-day meet below.
