Star age group swimmer Claire Curzan is looking to ride the wave of success into her first championship level meet as a 13 year-old. Curzan currently holds three girls 11-12 National Age Group records, which have all been set within the last four months.
Curzan first set the pool ablaze in Greensboro, NC, in March by toppling two 11-12 NAG records -- the 50 SCY butterfly (24.39) and 100 SCY butterfly (54.00). Curzan would go on to lower that 100 fly record even further in May with a blistering 53.95. Of note, the second-fastest performer of all time behind Curzan is Regan Smith -- 0.8 of a second behind. Even further, Smith just made the world championship team in the 200m backstroke.
Curzan showed off her skills in the long course meters pool as well, taking down the 50m butterfly NAG record with a 27.91 -- the first 11-12 girl ever under the 28-second barrier.
Can she continue her streak of dominance now that she has aged up into the 13-14 age group? She is currently entered in six events (50/100m freestyle, 100m butterfly, 100/200m backstroke, 200m IM) -- four of which she is seeded in the top five. Not too shabby for someone who just turned 13.
Curzan is not the only stud who will be lighting up the pool in Greensboro this weekend at the North Carolina LC Age Group Championships, though. Check out the psych sheet below for the final entries.
