North Carolina is -- and always has been -- a state ​loaded​ with swimming talent. Check out some of the names listed on the age group record book -- ​Kathleen Baker, Madison Homovich, Lauren Perdue, Ricky Berens, Matthew Josa, ​and ​Justin Ress.

And that's just to name a few...

The resume of those six names alone who came up through the North Carolina ranks is extraordinarily impressive.

Kathleen Baker  -- 2016 2x Olympic Medalist (Gold, 4x100m medley relay; Silver, 100m backstroke); 4x NCAA Champion
Madison Homovich --  Current U.S. National Junior Team Member
Lauren Perdue -- 2012 Olympic Gold Medalist (4x200m freestyle relay)
Ricky Berens -- 2x Olympic Gold Medalist; World Champion; Current World Record Holder (4x200m freestyle relay)
Matthew Josa -- 2013 Junior World Championship Team; 2015 World University Games Medalist; 2016 Olympic Trials Finalist
Justin Ress --​ NCAA Champion (800 freestyle relay); 2017 World Championship Team (50m backstroke)

Will we see the next generation of U.S. National Team stars rise this weekend at the North Carolina LC Age Group Championships? While we don't have the official psych sheet yet, 12 year-old ​Claire Curzan​ of the Raleigh Swimming Association is the current 11-12 National Age Group record holder in the 50m butterfly (27.91). She is also the NAG record holder in the short course butterfly events as well with blazing times in the 50 (24.39) and 100 (53.95).

Curzan, who also holds numerous North Carolina age group state records, could make some serious noise this weekend if she is entered in the state championship meet.
