(VIDEO) Jeff Kostoff Is Dressin' Slick & Stanford Fellas Swimmin' Quick
Stanford assistant coach Jeff Kostoff knows a thing or two about the 500 freestyle — and dressing fresh.
In 1983, Kostoff — a two-time Olympian — broke the national high school record with a blazing-fast 4:16.39. That record would stand all the way until 2013 when Jack Conger broke it with a 4:13.87. Who lowered it after that? Current Stanford swimmer Grant Shoults in 4:12.87. Shoults is now coached by Kostoff. How the world comes full circle...
Kostoff coaches a stable of world-class swimmers specializing in the 500 and 1650. Friday night at the Texas Invite, he had five guys under the 4:20 barrier in the 500. Yowza.
- Grant Shoults (1st) — 4:11.34
- Liam Egan (2nd) — 4:14.04
- Johannes Calloni (5th) — 4:16.60
- True Sweetser (6th) -— 4:16.82
- Matthew Hirschberger (17th) — 4:19.32
In the video interview above, Kostoff evaluates Friday night's performances and talks about the Cardinal's monster training group, including how each swimmer differs from one another.
