LIVE RESULTS
On Thursday night in Santa Clara, Katie Ledecky swam her first 1500m freestyle in nearly two years since she broke her own world record at the 2015 World Championships in Kazan, Russia with a 15:25.48.
Needless to say, the G.O.A.T. has not missed a beat. Ledecky popped off a sterling 15:35.65 -- the fastest time in the world this year by 29 seconds (yes, you read that correctly) and fifth fastest performance of all-time.
You might be thinking to yourself: "Dang, who are the four people who have been faster than that?" Well, I will tell you. Katie Ledecky (15:25.48), Katie Ledecky (15:27.71), Katie Ledecky (15:28.36), and Katie Ledecky (15:34.23). The next fastest person in history not named Ledecky is Lotte Friis with a 15:38.88 from 2013.
After her race, Ledecky talked about the swim and what sort of adjustments she needs to make in training over the next few weeks leading into Nationals and presumably World Championships. She also talked a bit about her tweet to Washington Nationals baseball superstar Bryce Harper.
...@Bharper3407, if you end up suspended, come on down to Palo Alto and hang out at the pool for a day!
