Who Needs Coffee When You Can Have Some Joe

Eddie Reese and the Texas Longhorns hold an annual “Class Relays” at the Lee and Joe Jamail Swim Center in Austin.

Reese described the Class Relays as “one of the most important days of the year” and went on to say, “If we could keep that energy and effort going for the rest of the year, we wouldn’t have many worries.”

There is no doubt the energy was electric amongst the men’s team at this year's edition and it was evident they take a lot of pride in stepping up to perform in these relays. The times and splits certainly reflect this.

For the 200 medley relay, the senior squad consisting of Jack Conger (backstroke), Will Licon (breaststroke), Will Glass (butterfly), and PJ Dunne (freestyle) stole the victory from a hard-charging Townley Haas and his sophomore squad 1:25.08 to 1:25.33.

It is extraordinarily impressive that Texas was able to put up three different relays to go 1:25 in in practice. What is more impressive is that their aggregate time (fastest splits combined into one relay), was a blazing 1:23.17. That is only four-tenths of a second off the Texas team record, which was set when the Longhorns placed 3rd at last year’s NCAA Championship.
