Indiana Sweeps Hoosier Invitational
The Indiana water polo team knocked off Iona and McKendree on Sunday to sweep the Hoosier Invitational.
Indiana defended its pool at the Hoosier Invitational on Sunday, going 2-0 against Iona and McKendree.
In the opener against the 25th-ranked Gaels, the Hoosiers received excellent outings from defender Kelly Matthews, attacker Megan Abarta and defender Karrie Kozokar. Abarta and Matthews scored four goals a piece — a career-best for Abarta — while Kozokar contributed a trio of her own in the 17-8 victory.
Against McKendree, IU was again dominant, knocking off the visiting Bearcats 14-3. Abarta scored three goals, while Kozokar, Matthews, freshmen Juli Hilovsky and Jennifer Hanling, and sophomore Emily Powell all scored twice.
Indiana will head west to California for the Triton Invitational in San Diego on Feb. 10.
