The heavy-hitting Japanese contingent continued their charge Thursday in Lausanne, but had some contenders break up their stranglehold for individual event wins.

A day after the Japanese men won 7-of-8, Sweden's Erik Perrson (200m breast), Germany's Philip Heintz (100m fly), Sweden's Nils Liess (400m free), and USA's Michael Andrew (50m free) all picked up individual wins.

One of the more impressive and dominating performances on the men's side came from Japan's Masaki Kaneko in the 100m back. Kaneko fired off a 49.92, the only man in the field under 50, to win by over a second and a half. That time for Kaneko is only three tenths of a second off his 49.65 national record set back in August at the Eindhoven World Cup. It is also the sixth fastest performance in the world this year.

Michael Andrew, the lone American in Lausanne, picked up his first event win in the 50m free with a 21.31. While Americans are not accustomed to training and competing in short course meters, that time still places Andrew within the world top 20 this year. His best time of 21.27 from the Singapore World Cup earlier this year ties him with Cullen Jones as the 6th fastest American performer in history.

On the women's side, arguably the most impressive performance of the night came from Japan's Rikako Ikee in the 100m fly. Ikee unloaded a 55.64 to tie her own national record set this time last year in Windsor, Canada at the SC World Championships. That time places her just outside the all-time top 10 at No. 11. Ikee also picked up another Japanese national record in the 50m free with a 23.95. Ranomi Kromowidjojo -- the world record holder -- won in 23.66.

Speaking of ties, Taylor Ruck and Katinka Hosszu found themselves in a tie for gold in the 100m back with matching 56.99s. Both of those times are just outside of the world top five this year. Ruck would go on to win the 200m free in 1:52.74 -- 0.17 ahead of Femke Heemskerk in 1:52.91 -- and Hosszu would go on to win the 200m IM in 2:05.00.
