Three current world-record holders on the men’s side will be chasing times and gold medals at the 2017 LEN European Short Course Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark, this week, but the most interesting swimmer we will be watching is, of course, Adam Peaty.

Peaty has asserted himself as the greatest sprint breaststroker of all time in the long course pool and it's not even close. But, what can he throw down in the 25m pool? Stay tuned to find out.

Adam Peaty

Having not focused on a short course meters meet since 2014 at the Doha World Championships where he finished with silver medals in both sprint breaststroke events, Peaty has since taken the world by storm crushing WRs left and right. As a matter of fact, his 25.95 and 57.13 in LCM are legitimately respectable SCM times. We think he can get one or maybe even both of Cameron van der Burgh’s longstanding marks.

Adam Peaty (2014)

  • 50m Breaststroke: 25.75
  • 100m Breaststroke: 56.35

World Records

  • 50m Breaststroke: 25.25 – Cameron van der Burgh (RSA)
  • 100m Breaststroke55.61 – Cameron van der Burgh (RSA)

1500m Freestyle

Gregorio Paltrinieri (ITA) vs. Mykhailo Romanchuk (UKR)

World Record: 14:08.06 – Gregorio Paltrinieri (ITA)

Paltrinieri and Romanchuk battled it out for 1300m in Budapest, Hungary, at Worlds, but the champ couldn’t be knocked down. Paltrinieri is the short course world-record holder, 2016 Olympic champion, 2017 world champion, and king of the distance freestyle events. Romanchuk is the new challenger. Cue dramatic music…

Vlad Morozov – 100m IM

World Record: 50.30 – Vlad Morozov (RUS)

The fastest man over 25m of all four strokes, Morozov took a run at his own mark in Beijing, finishing just 0.03 off the pace. He has stated we wants to break it again and possibly be the first man under 50 seconds for the 100m IM. That would be unreal.

200m Breaststroke

Marco Koch (GER) vs. Kirill Prigoda (RUS)

World Record: 2:00.44 – Marco Koch (GER)

Koch will have his work cut out for him to hold off World Cup star Prigoda, who challenged this mark recently at the Singapore World Cup with a 2:01.1. Koch hasn’t raced in full form since his 11th place in Budapest. He is the 100m and 200m champ from Windsor last year, so don’t rule him out in the short course pool.

Which records do you think will go down?
