Texas Invite | Joseph Schooling Fires Warning Shot With 44.78 In 100 Fly

Day three finals from the 2017 Texas Invitational was highlighted by a monster swim from 2016 Olympic gold medalist Joseph Schooling.

The unshaved and modestly rested Schooling fired off a 44.78 in the 100 fly, the first man to dip under the 45-second barrier this season. The three-time defending NCAA Champion Texas men have looked buried all season, and while their top studs aren't shaved this weekend, they are still letting the country know not to mess with the Horns.

Other notable swims on the men's side include Townley Haas' 1:32.40 in the 200 free and Nick Thorne's (Arizona) 3:41.47 in the 400 IM. There were also some big time performances from the postgrads. Texas two-step Andrew Wilson and Will Licon went 1-2 in the 100 breast with a 52.03 and 52.20, respectively, while Matt Grevers popped off a 44.92 in the 100 back.

On the women's side, we saw a pair of super quick 50 points from USC's Louise Hansson and Wisconsin's Beata Nelson. Hansson posted a 50.41 in the 100 fly -- the fastest time in the country this season, and Nelson dropped a 50.79 in the 100 back -- the second-fastest time in the country this year, only behind Cal's Kathleen Baker (50.62). As if that wasn't enough, USC's Riley Scott rattled off the fastest 100 breast in the country this year with a 58.64. That's one hell of a medley relay... most of one, at least.
