Winter Nats | Kelsi Worrell Blasts 49.87 100 Fly, 3rd Fastest Ever

Day three finals of the 2017 USA Swimming Winter Nationals featured some blazing times across the board.

This is a little bit of an interesting meet as most NCAA swimmers are competing in college invites. The two most notable college programs in Columbus are Ohio State (duh) and Louisville mixed in with some high school studs and pros as well.

On the women's side, the biggest swims of the night came from a pair of Cardinals with Kelsi Worrell (Dahlia) in the 100 fly and Mallory Comerford in the 200 free (and 100 fly). Worrell threw down a monster 49.87 in the 100 fly, the third-fastest performance of all time and just four tenths off her own American Record. Just minutes after a 50.9 in the 100 fly, Comerford posted a 1:41.17 in the 200 free -- the 9th fastest performance of all time and not too far off her best of 1:40.36. Melanie Margalis also had a huge night with a nasty triple -- taking wins in the 400 IM and 100 breast with a bronze in the 200 free.

On the men's side, the biggest swims of the night Nic Fink, Ryan Murphy, and Chase Kalisz. Fink threw down a 50.80 in the 100 breast for a new Championship Record. Shortly thereafter, Murphy demolished the field from start to finish in the 100 back with a 45.03 -- well off his best of 43.49 (which is also the fastest of all time by a long shot). In his signature event, Kalisz popped off a 3:39 in the 400 IM for an easy win. After the race, he said the time was "very slow." Sure, Chase. Whatever you say, man.
