LIVE RESULTS
Women 800 Free Relay
- University of Texas (A) — 6:58.75
- USC (A) — 7:00.40
- Arizona (A) — 7:02.92
Thanks to a swift 1:43.93 leadoff from Claire Adams, the Longhorns ladies were never in danger of losing this one. As a matter of fact, the Texas B team was running second in the final heat through three legs — due in large part to Quinn Carrozza's 1:44.11 leadoff — before Arizona's anchor Jamie Stone pulled away from Ella Tierney. The 6:58.75 from Texas was just off the 6:58.41 Louisville swam for the nation-leading time in Columbus, Ohio, at Winter Nats. USC, who competed in an earlier heat, grabbed the silver in 7:00.40 courtesy of a front-loaded relay of Louise Hansson (1:43.39) and Tatum Wade (1:44.58). Hansson had the fastest split of anyone in the field — leadoff or relay start.
Men 800 Free Relay
- University of Texas (A) — 6:14.62
- University of Texas (B) — 6:19.44
- Arizona State (A) — 6:19.74
Texas was strong but not as strong as they are capable of being in March. The quartet of Jonathan Roberts (1:35.29), Jeff Newkirk (1:33.60), Joseph Schooling (1:33.17), and Townley Haas (1:32.56) obliterated the field in 6:14.62 — easily securing an NCAA automatic qualifying time. The Longhorns B team snagged the silver thanks to a solid second leg from freshman Austin Katz (1:33.78), and Arizona State rounded out the podium led by another freshman, Grant House, anchoring in 1:33.14. The surprise was that star sophomore Cameron Craig wasn't a bit faster. Apparently still with a beard, Craig — who has been 1:31 — led off for the Sun Devils in 1:34.7. We will do our best to find out who is rested and who is not.
Action resumes Thursday morning with the 500 freestyle, 200 IM, and 50 freestyle.
