While it's not a selection meet for the Aussies, plenty of big names are racing to kick-start their preparations for the Commonwealth Games next April.

Day One Full Recap

LIVE RESULTS

Wow! A WORLD RECORD by Cate Campbell in the 100m freestyle really got things heated up on the first night of finals in Adelaide. Campbell’s time of 50.25 smashed the previous WR of 50.58 done by Sarah Sjöström just two months ago at the Eindhoven World Cup.

  1. 50.25 -- Cate Campbell (WR)
  2. 52.01 -- Bronte Campbell
  3. 52.25 -- Emma McKeon

After Campbell went out in a blistering 24.21 and home in 26.05, her 1.8-second drop-off is a clear sign that she has been working hard at training to close her races strongly.

Campbell originally held this record in 2015 with a 50.91, before Sjöström broke it twice recently, with efforts of 50.77 and 50.58. With both girls set to square off at three upcoming Asian World Cups, are we set to see a woman swim a sub-50 second 100m freestyle? (Hint: yes).

Hometown hero Kyle Chalmers got the crowd roared up, leading his club-mates to a 1-2-3 sweep of the men’s 100m freestyle. The 2016 Olympic champ, on the comeback trail after minor heart surgery, used his skills to win comfortably in 47.72.

  1. 47.72 -- Kyle Chalmers
  2. 48.06 -- Andrew Abood
  3. 48.17 -- Travis Mahoney

Double world champ Emily Seebohm cruised to a big win in the women’s 200m backstroke, to start off her six-event campaign here in Adelaide.

  1. 2:02.72 -- Emily Seebohm
  2. 2:05.05 -- Sian Whittaker
  3. 2:09.24 -- Samantha Schlicht

Japanese visitor Daiya Seto got his first win of the meet, taking care of business in the 200m butterfly. Seto, coming off his recent honeymoon in the Maldives, controlled things from the start and went out in 53.19 to take a big lead and maintain to the finish.

  1. 1:51.60 -- Daiya Seto
  2. 1:53.17 -- David Morgan
  3. 1:53.66 -- Nicholas Brown

Victoria’s Jessica Hansen got a big win over former Olympic champ Ruta Meilutyte in the women’s 100m breaststroke. Meilutyte took a sizable lead at the halfway mark, turning 30.66 to Hansen’s 31.08, but faded in the last 10 meters to just get touched out.

  1. 1:05.61 -- Jessica Hansen
  2. 1:05.69 -- Ruta Meilutyte (V)
  3. 1:06.56 -- Taylor McKeown

In timed finals of the 50m races Thursday morning, Bobby Hurley -- the former WR holder in the SCM 50 back, took the win in a solid 24.02. Campbell also kicked off with an early gold in her off event, the 50m fly. A prelude to her showing Thursday night...
