Can anybody touch Chase Kalisz right now? In his last two meets -- arena Pro Swim Series in Mesa and Atlanta -- Kalisz is seven for eight in event wins. The only race he finished second? The 200m breaststroke in Mesa. Who out-touched him? Josh Prenot -- the Olympic silver medalist and American record holder. Seems fair.
On Sunday night in Atlanta, Kalisz (lane 5) found himself in a bit of a battle with Joseph Schooling (lane 1) with 50 meters to go in the 200m butterfly. Schooling turned first at the 150, but Kalisz was too strong at the finish and got his hand on the wall first in 1:55.94. Schooling touched for second in 1:56.45. Kalisz will most certainly swim this race at the U.S. Nationals/World Championship Trials at the end of June. But the question remains: will Schooling choose to put this event on his international lineup? Stay tuned.
